In partnership with Mississippi Baptist Disaster Relief and the Red Cross, IMPACT 360 prepared a hot meal for 500 of the residents of Wilkinson County. One of the areas that was hit pretty hard by the flooding is Fort Adams.

Myrtis Martin operates a small convenience store just 1.5 miles from the Mississippi River. Two weeks ago her business was 7 feet under water. While sitting in a plastic lawn chair in the center of her store she is confident that she will pass the inspection in 30 days thus allowing her to rebuild. Today her grandson Charles helps her scrape up floor tile and remove what little drywall is still hanging on the studs.

IMPACT 360 is set-up at First Baptist Church Natchez which is about 40 minutes north of Fort Adams where the food is being delivered. Natchez is a good location to receive the tractor trailers full of supplies from the Red Cross and puts this operation closer to the other two feeding units that Mississippi Disaster Relief had deployed.

Tomorrow this mobile kitchen will be in Natchez, Mississippi serving 1,200 meals a day. Our kitchen that has served the student community quite here in Pine Mountain, GA well and it will return to campus in two weeks. From the very beginning this kitchen had a secondary purpose. To respond to situations where we can serve others. That opportunity is now.

The catastrophic flooding during April and May in the Mississippi River basin has affected multiple states and is expected to reach damages in the billions of dollars. Fourteen counties, shaping the entire western border of the state of Mississippi, were declared federal disaster areas by FEMA, and agricultural losses in that state alone could top $800 million.
