Expansion on the Horizon at IMPACT 360

Expansion on the Horizon at IMPACT 360

A place known for its unique ability to grow students in their faith,

IMPACT 360 is also growing in numbers and size. The pioneer program, which offers college-age students a “gap year” of study focused on servant leadership and Christian worldview, has seen its enrollment boosted by 10% every year since 2008.

Expansion on Horizon for IMPACT 360

Program Director, John Basie, calls the incredible growth, “a testimony to the hard work of our team, as well …

Students are Changing

Students are Changing

As I have come to know the members of the current IMPACT 360 class, I am eager to ask the question, “How are you different now than in September when you first moved in?” One student said, “I have learned so much about the Bible, what I believe, how to defend my faith, and so much about myself. I am learning to ask the tough questions.”

Another said, “Being here has …

Doing our part

A number of IMPACT 360 alumni and other former students came to mind when I read this snippet from C.S. Lewis today:  “But I have received no assurance that anything we can do will eradicate suffering.  I think the best results are obtained by people who work quietly away at limited objectives, such as the abolition of the slave trade, or prison reform, or factory acts, or tuberculosis, not by those who think they can …

Christians, Power, & Calling

This week Trent Wilbanks and I are team teaching our final module for the academic year.  Cultural transformation is the topic, and Andy Crouch’s book Culture Making is the backbone text.  Concept of the week?  Power.  Crouch says that cultural power is “the ability to successfully propose a new cultural good.”  As it turns out, this concept is related to our various callings.  More to come on this in …

The Gap-Year: An Increasingly Popular Option for Millennials

I just got back from a fantastic two-day gap-year round-table forum in Manitou Springs, CO.  The forum was a group of 11 gap-year program and non-traditional educational leaders, some of whom have been directing their programs for a few years, others who are just now launching. Somewhat of a surprise to me was the fact that IMPACT 360 was one of the senior citizens at the table, and we’re not even five years old.

The …

End of Year Reflections

Fall 2009 on the IMPACT 360 campus was about looking inward to see what we needed spiritually and intellectually so that we could become the Christ-centered servant leaders that we were designed to be.  Basic training and fundamental tools are required in the equipping stage so that we can effectively live out the two great biblical mandates:  the creation/cultural mandate and the great commission mandate.  The latter challenges us go into all the world with …

Rats in the Cellar

As we look back on what we’ve done and what has been accomplished this semester, it is incredible to realize the sheer number of activities in which we’ve engaged as a community. We’ve faithfully attended highly rigorous worldview classes, debated each other mercilessly in Thursday wrap-up sessions, served weekly in the local Pine Mountain community, conquered a treacherous ropes course, traveled endless miles to and from Chick-fil-A headquarters for leadership training, hosted a seemingly …

The Abundant Life: What to do with the “Shoulds”

The Abundant Life: What to do with the “Shoulds” (John 10:7-10)
John D. Basie
7So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you,(D) I am the door of the sheep. 8All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9I am the door. If anyone enters by me,(E) he will be saved and will go in and out and(F) …
